The SC has resolved the contentious issue surrounding the Chandigarh mayoral election by declaring Kuldeep Kumar, representing the AAP, as the legitimate winner. This decision comes in the wake of prolonged legal battles and disputes over the election results. The apex court's ruling settles the uncertainty that loomed over the outcome, providing clarity and closure to the electoral process in Chandigarh.
The Supreme Court, while hearing a petition on allegations of vote tampering in the Chandigarh mayoral polls, said that the eight 'defaced' votes should be considered valid.
Additionally the court ordered prosecution of the returning officer of the poll, Anil Masih, a BJP leader for his "misdemeanour" after finding serious faults in the conduct of the January 30 election.
